Takeaways from Tesla's Annual Report

Taken from Tesla's 2018 Annual Report

  1. The Tesla Model 3 was the best selling premium vehicle in the U.S. in 2018.

  2. 75% of the components on the Model Y will be the same as the Tesla Model 3.

  3. Tesla spent $687 million on construction for Gigafactory 1 in 2018.

  4. In order to make the Model 3 more affordable for customers in China, Tesla has constructed Gigafactory Shanghai as to eliminate certain tariffs.

  5. Including Gigafactory Shanghai, Tesla's goal is to be able to produce 10,000 vehicles per week.

  6. The Internal Revenue Code allows a taxpayer to claim a credit of 30% of qualified expenditures for a commercial solar energy system that commences construction by December 31, 2019.

  7. Tesla previously announced a patent policy in which they pledge that they will not initiate a lawsuit against any party for infringing on their patents so long as such party is acting in good faith.

  8. Tesla currently offers in their vehicles an advanced driver assist system that they refer to as Autopilot, including auto-steering, traffic aware cruise control, automated lane changing, automated parking, Summon, and driver warning systems.

  9. Tesla cars are able to provide "regenerative braking" which captures energy form the wheels to charge the battery pack.

  10. Tesla offers what is known as the Tesla Supercharger and is an industrial grade, high speed charger designed to recharge Tesla vehicles significantly more quickly than other charging options.
